Drayton is a parish in the hundred of Abdick, about 2 miles from Langport and less than a mile from Curry Rivel. The church, dedicated to St. Catherine, is an ancient stone edifice with embattled tower and fine Norman porch. The parish includes the hamlet of Midelney, where Midelney Manor can be found, which was built in the late 16th century in two distinct halves by Richard and Thomas Trevillian.
I spent the day in Drayton and although there were probably shops in the village at some time, I didn't find any. There is a beautiful plant nursery, which I found too late to have lunch in! The Drayton Arms pub is opposite the church but sadly doesn't serve food - as the landlord said, "this is a pub pub, we sell beer", but it does have a lovely family atmosphere with a large collection of games for the customers use, plus a pool room and large skittle ally.
Google maps has toured the village with their camera mounted car - so you can take a virtual walk along the streets.
